There's more to that "Morning Joe" than you know! Many of us start our day with a delicious steaming cup of Joe…but did you know that the same coffee you love in your cup can also work wonders for your skin?
Have you been seeing coffee scrubs touted all over the internet as the hot new thing for your skin? Have you wondered if it’s all hype and no substance? Well, wonder no further, I’ll help you understand how coffee scrubs can get your skin ready to look its best.
I have made hundreds of coffee scrubs and the feedback from my customers has helped me fine tune the formula to make it one of my best line of scrubs ever! Not only that, but I also use it weekly as part of my own skin care regimen.
What exactly is a coffee scrub? A coffee scrub is basically what you think it is: a body scrub made with coffee. The finely ground up coffee grinds help to mechanically exfoliate your skin—that means they physically remove dead skin cells from your skin’s surface through the act of sloughing your skin. With a coffee scrub, the finely-ground coffee particles work to gently exfoliate the skin.
Not all coffee scrubs are created equal For a coffee scrub to be effective, the coffee grinds should be blended with oils and butters that help moisturize and repair your skin during the exfoliation process. At pureSCRUBS we blend in an army of skin loving ingredients that takes our coffee scrubs to a different level. Our coffee scrubs are also blended with fine grain Dead Sea salt which adds to the exfoliation power and also provides the mineral rich benefits that you can only get from Dead Sea salt.
Caffeine - It's Cellulite's #1 Enemy It is thought that the caffeine found in coffee scrubs helps to dilate blood vessels which may reduce the appearance of cellulite and gives the skin a more even toned look. It’s important to realize that this doesn’t’ eliminate cellulite but can help minimize the appearance of cellulite – and that in itself is GREAT! I like to think of this as an extra bonus that you get along with the excellent exfoliation that you would expect from a quality scrub.
Coffee is also rich in antioxidants and when a coffee scrub is applied, the skin absorbs the antioxidant properties which can increase collagen production that helps prevent premature aging. And like other exfoliating scrubs, the coffee grinds make excellent micro scrubbing agents that he;p remove dead skin cells, yielding a smoother look and feel for your skin.
How often should I use a coffee scrub? Coffee scrubs are generally most effective if used 2-3 times a week to exfoliate dead skin and increase blood flow for healthier looking skin. If you are already using a body scrub weekly, then try and work in a coffee scrub at least once week into your skin care routine.
Add a coffee scrub to your routine - here's why
It helps keep your skin smooth & supple - after exfoliating on a regular basis, you will notice the skin is able to absorb moisture more effectively. This will stimulate blood flow, which can help diminish things like cellulite, stretch marks, and acne.
It removes dead skin cells - a coffee scrub can help exfoliate the surface of your skin, lifting away dull, dead skin cell buildup and leaving you with a complexion that looks more radiant. When the dead, dry skin flakes are gone, your fresh new skin is able to shine through
It utilizes the power of antioxidants - Coffee is packed full of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals, the highly chemically reactive oxygen molecules that we don’t want floating around in our bodies. One antioxidant found in coffee is chlorogenic acid (CGA), which lowers blood pressure and acts as an anti-inflammatory when ingested. When antioxidants like CGA and others are applied topically instead, they also fight sunspots, premature skin aging (wrinkles), unwanted fine lines in the skin, and even reduce dark spots under and around the eyes.
It reduces the appearance of cellulite - research has found that products containing caffeine may dehydrate cells, which can make cellulite less obvious—though not get rid of it—per the American Academy of Dermatology. While it may not make your dimpled skin disappear, you can try using a coffee body scrub to help combat cellulite – we all hate cellulite!
It can get messy - but it's so worth it! Using a coffee scrub can sometimes get messy. I typically use it in the shower so it’s not that messy because it all swishes away down the drain. If you are using this in a tub setting, exit the tub safely and make sure you splash some water along the tub walls/floor to rinse out any coffee grinds that may be left over. This way your tub will be as clean as when you got in and have no coffee stains!
